Special information needed by state for oversize or overweight moves.

Please always provide the starting & ending address. Same with the load Make, Model, & Serial number when there is one.

AL - ALABAMA
  • 1st Time: Need Insurance Certificate to: AL DOT, Permits Office, 1409 Coliseum Blvd, Montgomery, AL, 36130
  • Need Original Origin & Final Destination of move
 AK – ALASKA
  • Need Axle Weights, Spacings, Tire Widths, & # of Tires per axle (always)
  • Need Original Origin & Final Destination of move.
AB – ALBERTA
  • Need axle Weights, Spacings, & Tires sizes in metric
  • Need Drivers License info including birth date
AR - ARKANSAS
  • Need Arkansas Registered Weight
  • Load Serial # always needed
  • Axle Weights, Spacings, # of Tires per Axle, Tire Sizes, & Steer Axle Rating (always)
  • 1st Time MOBILE HOMES ONLY need Insurance Certificate made out to: AHTD Permit Section, PO Box 2779 Little Rock, AR 72203
AZ – ARIZONA
  • Need Axle Weights, Spacings, Tire Sizes, & # of Tires per axle (always)
  • IRP#, IFTA#, & Motor Carrier #. If n/a will need the temporary permit #s before ordering oversize (On the Move will obtain the temporary permits for you)
  • Can be ordered with a Western Regional Permit
CA – CALIFORNIA
  • Kingpin Setting- from kingpin to last axle (trailers over 48'' long- 40' is max allowed; no max for 48' trailers)
  • Need dimensions of load (each individual piece if hauling multiple pieces)
  • Mobile Homes over 14 feet wide must provide a certificate of insurance
  • Please allow 24- 48 hours for California permits to come back
CO – COLORADO 
  •  Need a HUD# for Mobile Homes starting in Colorado
CT – CONNECTICUT
  • Need axle Weights & Spacings (always)
  • Need Load, Trailer, and Kingpin Length (kingpin distance in Connecticut is measured from the kingpin to the center of the rear axle)
  • Need Truck and Trailer Registered Weight
  • If mobile home- Need box length & hitch length
DE - DELAWARE
  • Need axle Weights & Spacings (always)
  • Need Original Origin & Final Destination of move
FL – FLORIDA  
  •  Need Kingpin setting measured from the kingpin to the center of the rear axle group (Over 41' kingpin setting is over length in Florida & accrues extra permit fees)
GA - GEORGIA
  • Need axle Weights & Spacings when over 75' long or 150,000 lbs (not needed legal length & 80,000 to 150,000 lbs)
  • 1st Time: Insurance Certificate to: GA DOT, Oversize Permit Unit, Attn: Insurance Renewal Unit, 935 E Confederate Ave, Bldg 24, Atlanta, GA 30316
  • Overweight: Don't need axle weights or spacings unless over 150,00lbs
 ID – IDAHO
  • Need Trailer length
  • Can be ordered with a Western Regional Permit
 IL – ILLINOIS      
  •  Need Make, Model, & Serial # when overweight only or when requesting a round trip 
  • Trailer info not needed unless trailer is extended, then kingpin setting is also needed (measured from kingpin to the center of rear axle. Setting affects fee, 45-6 legal)
IN - INDIANA
  • Need Axle Weights & Spacings (always)
  • 1st Time: Need M-203 on file with state. Forms available from On The Move Permits
  • Trailer info not needed
  • Legal weight in Indiana is 76,000 lbs
IA – IOWA    
  • Must be registered for weight hauling (they allow 5% tolerance) & may need a copy of the Cab Card to verify Registered Weight
  • For overweight loads, IA typically requests a copy of the CAB CARD to verify weight in IA.
KS – KANSAS
  • Kansas Registered Weight (If not registered for overall permit weight, weight increase fees will be added to Over Weight Permit. A temporary registration permit may also be needed)
  • If over weight, need # of Tires per Axle & Tire Widths along with the axle weights & spacings
KY – KENTUCKY
  • Axle weights in groups (always)
  • 56000lbs GVW & over needs permanent or temporary KYU for the truck (On the Move can obtain a temporary KYU permit)
  • For Bulldozers over 12 ft wide: Does it have a bucket or blade?
  • Power unit's must be in Kentucky's inventory in order to receive a permit same day. If the truck is not in KY's inventory it will be the following morning until it can be issued. (On the Move can submit to inventory for you for an additional fee)
 LA – LOUISIANA
  • Need LA customer account # if you already have one. Obtained by On The Move Permits for new customers
  • For legal weight loads: How many days effective on the permit? ($10/day)?
  • Overweight: Steer axle tire sizes; Can run on a temporary registration permit like most states (if no apportioned plates) BUT should to be registered for 80000 (or the max weight allowed) in your base state
  • Can be ordered with a Western Regional Permit
ME – MAINE  
  • Need Maine Registered Weight
  • For Mobile Homes, need Year, Make, Serial #, and COLOR of the home.
MB – MANITOBA
  • Need Registered Weight
  • If over weight: Manitoba needs the king pin setting
  • Last Manitoba permit # if traveled in the province previously
MD – MARYLAND 
  • Need weights of Truck, Trailer, and Load
  • Note: 8'0" is legal width in Maryland, over 8' wide generally needs a permit.
MA – MASSACHUSETTS 
  • No specific information is needed for MA, but the state charges for permits that are ordered whether they are issued, canceled, or denied.
MI – MICHIGAN
  • Need Axle Weights, Spacings, Tire Tread Widths, & # of Tires per axle (always)
  • Need Load Make/Model/Serial, Length, Width, Height, & Weight
  • Hauling Multiple Pieces? If so, need how many & how they are loaded (end-to-end, side by side, nested, stacked, etc)
  • Mobile Homes: Color needed; Max height for mobile homes is 15 ft high
  • MI does not check for height clearances when over 13-6 high. Route needs to be prerun.
  • FYI- Legal Weight in Michigan is 70,000 pounds gross weight on 5 axles. To meet legal weight requirements, weight must be distributed on the axles like this: 12000 steer axle, 16000, 16000, 13000, 13000. A legal weight permit is $15 & over weight is $50.
  • 1st Time: The company must register with the State of Michigan. This can't be done by On the Move. Register at: Michigan Registration Please go back in after registering & choose to be linked to oversize permits.
  • Weekend travel often allowed if 10 feet wide, 14 feet high, 90 feet long or less BUT IT MUST BE SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED
MN – MINNESOTA 
  • If overweight need # of Tires per Axle along with the axle weights & spacings
  • Need empty weight of tractor & trailer plus the load weight
  • For trailers over 52 feet long: Need king pin setting (measured from the pin to the center of the trailer axle group)
  • For trailers over 53 feet long, does it reduce down to legal length?
  • Over 75' long total length: axle spacings are needed
MS – MISSISSIPI
  • 1st Time: Insurance certificate w/cert holder listed as: MDOT PO BOX 1850 Jackson, MS 39215
MO – MISSOURI 
  • 1st Time: Must submit New Hauler form filled out by company. Form is available from On The Move Permits
  • Is load being moved FOR HIRE or PRIVATE?
MT – MONTANA  
  • If overweight need # of Tires per Axle & Tire Sizes along with the axle weights & spacings
  • 1st Time: Need insurance company name, address, phone, fax, policy#, effective date, expiration date, & coverage amount
  • Mobile homes must have a transporter/DRW plate
  • Can be ordered with a Western Regional Permit
NE – NEBRASKA
  • Manufactured homes: 1st Time Need insurance on file; Also need HUD # & factory offline/manufactured date 
NV – NEVADA 
  • Need Axle Spacings & # of Tires per Axle
  • Need trailer length
  • Need a Nevada Amber Light permit if using a flashing amber light (usually needed & can be obtained by On the Move Permits)
  • Can be ordered with a Western Regional Permit
NH - NEW HAMPSHIRE      
  • If overweight need # of Tires per Axle & Tire Sizes along with the axle weights & spacings
  • Routes submitted to New Hampshire must be working routes & prerun. NH does not route.
  • Most moves over 13-6 high require a route survey to be submitted.
NJ - NEW JERSEY
  • If overweight need # of Tires per Axle & Tire Sizes along with the axle weights & spacings
NM - NEW MEXICO 
  • Need axle Weights, Spacings, & # of Tires per Axle (always)
  • 1st Time: Need insurance certificate on file (a standard accord form is fine, NM doesn't need to be certificate holder)
  • Can be ordered with a Western Regional Permit
NY - NEW YORK   
  • Need axle Weights & Spacings (always)
  • Need Height survey for all moves over 13-6 high in New York
  • NY Thruway maximum dimensions: 12-6 wide & 13-6 high (Thruway permits are valid 1 day only)
  • NY City night moves are required when LOAD is over 10 feet wide (10:00pm to 5:30am EST)
NC - NORTH CAROLINA
  • Allow 10 days for a Superload approval (When over 13000 Steer axle, 132000 lbs Gross Weight, OR 15' Wide) Superload bridge fee charged by North Carolina is $100 + 13 admin fee in addition to the state fee listed on the permit.
ND - NORTH DAKOTA
  • Need North Dakota Registered Weight
  • Need Axle Weights, Spacings, # of Tires per Axle, & Tire Widths & Tire Mfg Ratings (During Spring Thaw & for Mobile Homes always).
  • Mobile Homes: need HUD #, Address & Owner of the home when Starting or Ending in the state
OH – OHIO
  • 1st Time: Need OS-32 Insurance form on file with Ohio. Forms available from On the Move or from Ohio DOT’s website at: Ohio OS-32 
  • Deck height of load; Minimum underclearance of trailer
  • Need load Year/Make/Model/Serial#, load weight, width & height
  • If overweight need # of Tires per Axle & Tire Sizes along with the axle weights & spacings
OK – OKLAHOMA
     

  • Used Mobile homes starting in OK: Need HUD #
ON – ONTARIO
  • Need CVOR # (Canadian equivalent of the USDOT #)
OR – OREGON
  •  Need Carrier Oregon File # if already have one, obtained by calling Oregon State if needed
  • Can be ordered with a Western Regional Permit
PA – PENNSYLVANIA
  • Need axle Weights & Spacings (always)
  • Need 6 digit load serial # (always & regardless of what the load is)
QC – QUEBEC 
  • Need CVOR # (Canadian equivalent of the USDOT #)
RI - RHODE ISLAND
  • Need Axle Weights & Spacings (always)
 SK – SASKATCHEWAN   
  • Need CVOR # (Canadian equivalent of the USDOT #)
SC - SOUTH CAROLINA    
  • Need axle Weights & Spacings (always)
SD - SOUTH DAKOTA
  • 1st Time: Need insurance company Name, Address, Phone, Fax, Policy#, Effective date, Expiration date, & Coverage amount
  • If overweight need # of Tires per Axle & Tire Widths along with the axle weights & spacings
TN – TENNESSEE
  • Need Kingpin setting (Measured from the kingpin to the end of the trailer, over 50' adds $15 to state fee)
  • Trailer info not needed for legal weight permits (just the kingpin setting)
TX – TEXAS  
  • If overweight, need # of Tires per Axle & Tire Widths along with the axle weights & spacings
  • Mobile Homes: Name of owners for the home if starting or stopping at a residence
  • Can be ordered with a Western Regional Permit
UT – UTAH
  • Need Registered Weight & Gross Vehicle Weight
  • Need color of truck & when the plate expires
VT – VERMONT  
  •  Need Original Origin & Final Destination of move
  • Superloads require an Insurance Certificate made out to: State of Vermont, Agency of Transportation, Dept of Motor Vehicles
VA – VIRGINIA
  • Need axle Weights & Spacings (always)
  • Wheel base for self propelled vehicles (to determine whether it's a superload. Allow 10 days for superload permits.)
WA – WASHINGTON
  • Overhang: Rear overhang is measured from the center of the last axle (not the end of the trailer) to the end/back of the load. Front overhang is over the front truck bumper not front of trailer.
  • If overweight need # of Tires per Axle & Tire Widths along with the axle weights & spacings
  • Night travel is allowed up to 12 wide, 14-6 high and 105 ft long.
WV - WEST VIRGINIA
  • Need Axle Weights, Spacings, # of Tires per Axle, & Tire Sizes (when over 65,000 lbs)
  • Mobile Homes: Driver Name & Insurance Certificate needed if they don't already have one on file
  • Canceled or denied permits are STILL CHARGED by WV whether the permit is issued or not
WI – WISCONSIN     
  • If overweight need # of Tires per Axle & Tire Widths along with the axle weights & spacings
  • 1st Time: All customers need a WI PC#, applied for by On The Move Permits
  • For buildings that come from a foundation: CDL driver's license # and a LC or MC# required.
WY – WYOMING
  • Oversize and overweight permit approvals can be obtained by calling the port of entry 150 miles prior to entering the state.
